I had very low expectations for this place. I drive by every so often and it always seems empty. The truth is, this is no Sugarfish. But it is good. The fish is fresh and the menu is creative. Waitstaff is attentive and eager to please. And overall it was an enjoyable meal. The next time Sugarfish has an hour wait, I'm totally coming back here.

The location and pricing led me to think this was going to be good sushi, but it wasn't. There are a lot of options in LA so the short menu and mediocre fish quality was surprising. There were only a few people in the restaurant, but the service also sucked. Our waitress was sweet and meant well, but she wasn't very attentive. My tea was cold and the two rolls we tried were tasteless. Parking was limited to the street so it isn't convenient. It's kind of cool looking, but the seats were uncomfortable and the tables were sticky. I will not come here again and I can't recommend it.

Excellent service and fresh food with fantastic flavor combinations. The Del Sol roll was by far the best sushi roll I have ever had. The yellowtail and grapefruit salad was so light and fresh it practically melted in my mouth. Great find and highly recommend!

Thought the sushi was only okay. We ordered crispy rice w/ spicy tuna, SAS roll, and the sushi lite dinner. The crispy rice w/ spicy tuna was very good, the SAS roll was strange - the salmon on top was half cooked and the roll was drizzled in a creamy sauce. The sushi lite dinner came with a salad, miso soup, and bean appetizer, and 4 pieces of sushi (1 salmon, 1 tuna, 2 albacore), which were only okay. Lastly, the service was really slow, even though there were only a small handful of other tables. With so many other good sushi options in town, I doubt we'll be heading back.

One of the better sushi places I have been to. Great food. Great staff. I recommend yellowtail & grapefruit (with yuzu sauce and orange zest)and the Del Sol(spicytuna, apple, avocado with baked lobster) What a great place! Oh ya they also do The eleven OMAKASE so you can try all their good stuff.

I love this new place! The sushi is super fresh and service is good. The restaurant itself is calming and very clean. I love that it isn't a super busy, packed place but that could change as more people try this spot. Rolls here could be a little bigger but they aren't skimpy by any means and they are delicious. The green tea ice cream is beyond. Really glad we stopped in to try this place and we've already been back again a week later. Try it out!

Again on a quest to find our regular sushi joint close to our place. We had the omikase here and although not as good as Mori, it was quite good. The fish was fresh, and the staff is very friendly. The Omikase is not all sashimi, but definitely a very good experience.

I used to go to this Sushi location when it was Oishi, but drove by last Saturday and saw it had changed to Raw. But what a change it was! This seriously might be the best Sushi I have ever had in Los Angeles. The staff and Sushi chef made me feel at home and also recommended a couple of items on the menu. Everything we tried was delicious and can't wait to return!!

Yummy! Not just another sushi joint! excellent tasty new things to try, nice people serving you and could become your new sushi regular spot. I have been twice now and both times i went it was really 5 stars. Go try it.

Great new place in town! Decided to try it out on a Friday night. When we arrived, we were greeted by the friendly staff immediately. The rest of our party hasn't arrived but we were seated without a problem. The place was newly decorated and had very clean modern touches. The angular piece on top of the sushi bar was the center of attraction. Food was great. The sashimi was fresh, presentation was beautiful, and our favorite dish was a delicious black cod. This is not a traditional sushi restaurant. It's sushi with a modern touch and we loved it. Service was top notch. Our waiters were friendly and attentive. We left satisfied and will definitely return.

Went there for lunch. A few hand rolls later the bill was $75. The place was pretty much empty except for a table serving 2. The reason is simple. South Robertson is not the kind of area you can charge these prices. Raw is not Koi or Katana. Ya the decor is nice and the food good but not $17 a roll good. They have really nice people working there. They are mostly standing around sice it is never busy. If this place is to survive their prices need to be adjusted.

This place is very cute and has great staff. Their downfall will ultimately come from their prices. Way too expensive and the food is average.

This new sushi place does not disappoint. With new ownership and an amazing modern and cozy interior design, this sushi bar offers a quality selection. This is not the run of the mill sushi place, you can see that they have taken the time to set their presentation apart from all the others. The sea weed is crisp and light, and the fish is really fresh.

Probably have one of the most fresh fish in Beverly Hills. I was very impressed with how fresh each nigiri was. With salmon being my favorite kind of nigiri, I was very impressed with the ratio of sashimi and rice they had. The yellow tail belly is 2 dollars more than the salmon, but it was very good. Probably the best yellow tail I've had. This place would get 5 stars if they had more choices for drinks and hand rolls. Overall, service was very attentive and the food was delicious.

Oh man I feel so bad giving this place a bad review. The staff was nice and the service was good. The food was overpriced and pretty forgettable. Got the 8 piece omakase and the first 4 pieces came out and tasted and looked pretty much identical. The popcorn shrimp 9 bucks for 7 little shrimp was grossly overpriced. The special rolls ranged from 14 to 20 dollars, yeah 20 bucks! We stopped eating after we basically couldn't find anything else we wanted to shell out for and left hungry. Again I feel bad because they did give me an extra hand roll with the omakase but it wasn't very good. Sad to say I see rough seas ahead for this place.

One word overpriced!!! Don't waste your money on such average sushi and basic rolls being so expensive !! Much better sushi choices then these people who rip you off ! Rotten damn scums !!!!

Awesome quality sushi, cute place, nice staff. It wasn't too pricey at all, and the ambiance was great as well! We used to eat here when it was called "Oishi" and weren't as impressed, so I am really grateful we tried Raw the other day. It is SO convenient and easy to find free parking nearby as well!
(4)
Jenny J.
The pros: It's easy to find parking and there's always a table available. The staff is really nice. The cons: We got the 11 piece omakase ($45). It's a good deal but the pieces we were given weren't that great. Of the 11 pieces, only 2 were "wow." I always viewed omakase as an opportunity for the chef to have fun and be a bit inventive (even through simplicity). Rather than calling this omakase, they should have called it varied regular "sushi plate." It was good but I would have gone somewhere else. The alcohol is marked up a bit too.

This place is really good! I was brought over here by my girlfriend for dinner, and I didn't really know what to expect. When we sat down at the sushi bar, the sushi chef was very nice and extremely welcoming. He ordered a bunch of different things, but to me the biggest send out was the sushi (not the rolls but actual sushi). The fish was extremely fresh and the rice was absolutely delicious! After talking to the sushi chef, he evengive us a complementary roll to have just to try it out! This place was awesome! Definitely coming back :)

Great sushi! Unfortunately, the restaurant is a little empty so it's not as fun as it should be. The decor is great and so is the staff. If you are just looking for some tasty sushi in a clean, friendly atmosphere, this is the place. If you are looking for a fun, upbeat, people watching experience this probably isn't your place. It's a bit too quiet for fun group but great if you like to talk to your date.

I love the atmosphere here. It feels casual and intimate at the same time. So glad this restaurant is close, easy-going, delicious and priced reasonably. GREAT beer list....has a couple options you won't find at many places nearby. The $5 house Cab is actually good....and I love great wine. Enjoyed everything. Really hope this place stays around for a long time to come. Friendly, fast and unassuming service make it a definite go-to. Can't wait to go back.

Some people making negative comments about this place seem like they are trippin. I've had their fish several times an I really like it. This place stands our because their sashimis taste fresh and delicious. Their rolls are not too fancy, basic, but this allows you to taste the freshness of the fish more, so I'm OK with it. I like that they are not too saucy with their dishes. The natural flavor is good, the service was good. I recommend this place if you're in the area!

Really good sushi offered fresh and with minimal sauces so you can really savor the ingredients. Presentation was great. Nice crisp decor. Moderately priced. Negs, shallow bowl for soy sauce and they bring a spec of wasabi so you have to ask for more. Suggestion: sweep up the leaves on the patio, it'll make this place more inviting. Review based on weekday lunchtime visit.

Went there few nights ago with a friend. Overall i thought it was good. Delicious food but service wasn't exactly the best. Took about 15-20 mins to bring out food after every order. Everyone was really friendly and most of all, they have black rice- my favorite.

Delicious sushi and a very inviting atmosphere. The staff was extremely friendly and I enjoyed the simple lighting and decor. I definitely recommend the cucumber roll. A little overpriced for basic rolls is my only complaint! I would return.

Everything was DELICIOUS. Especially the tempura rolls. Had the veg tempura roll and tempura shrimp roll. Both delectable. Their breading is so special and you can tell they fry in crystal clean oil. So so good. Also had the spicy tuna roll, which we get at every sushi place we go to. This one wasn't the best, because it didn't have very much flavor. Tried the truffle parmesan edamame for an appetizer and loved it. It is made with truffle oil. Will come back next time I am in the area.

I was on my way to another sushi spot and passed by this place. I jumped out of the car and my husband and I decided it looked legit enough to try. I was blown away with the unique sushi specials and rolls. For example, the lemon cilantro and jalapeño rolled in salmon sushi... Yum! The quality of the fish was also amazing!! I honestly can say that this was one of the best sushi experiences I've had in years. I will definitely go back regularly!!

Great neighborhood vibe at this gem of a sushi place in my new 'hood! Baby Daddy and I first checked this place out for Valentine's Day. We originally thought it would be a romantic night out for two, but realized very quickly that this place was family-friendly in a very good way. Couples came in here with their well-behaved children (seriously well-behaved) and enjoyed dinner. Granted, it was senior citizen early at 5:30 pm. We almost felt bad that we didn't bring along our Little Miss as an accessory, but really, not very much. The yellowtail sashimi with grapefruit and yuzu was superb! We loved their lobster hand roll and black cod miso on baby kale! For Valentine's Day, they had some specials, including sake which we indulged without the guilt of child in tow. I told you we didn't feel that bad. We went back this past weekend with my visiting cousin from Hawaii and even invited my mom and Lil Sis along to enjoy the goodness, sitting amongst the carefully curated looks of hipsters. This reservation was later in the evening as opposed to my original visit. My mom and cousin enjoyed the ample servings of the dinner bowls. My mom came hungry as she also ordered tempura which was light and crisp. My cousin who regularly can enjoy delicious, fresh poke and sushi on her island, was impressed by the price point to food ratio. My Lil Sis who claims to be a sushi connoisseur said that this place was just as good as another sushi place that makes me wanna sing a Maroon 5 song with fish attached, but I digress...Summer Fish is not nearly as crowded as that place, but the quality and friendly service are definitely on par with the best of them. I'm happy we've found a sushi haven on our new side of town.

Know a few things before going: 1. Very noisy - loud noise reflective space and lots of kids 2. No valet parking and parking in the area is not easy 3. Understaffed - took 20 minutes just to get water - only 2 waiters on duty, no bus staff 4. Happy Hour offerings are good - Shrimp Tempura Happy Hour is great and beer, Japanese chicken is overcooked and small with no flavor 5. Hamachi Collar - very good - good size 6. Better Black Cod elsewhere Ultimately I would only go back for Happy Hour due to the poor service and order all at once.

A local favorite on the days I work in "town"... Sometimes I eat here twice a week and have many favorites on the menu. The truffle edamame, lobster hand roll, kale and crab salad, and tempura green tea ice cream come to mind from a delicious meal last night (and cucumber no rice sashimi roll and dynamite - baked mushroom and scallop dish from the night before!). They are consistent, clean, and have good music and good saki. The employees seem more like owners and two of them have become like family- it's definitely my work neighborhood Japanese American Cheers!

Summer Fish is like a little dream in the middle of the big city. It might sound silly, but it reminded me of how I would feel when I'd walk around the high street in a little town in Europe and just happen upon a brand new gem. I discovered Summer Fish & Rice after unsuccessfully visiting several alterations shops only to find that they were all closed. I thought to myself "at least I can still get lunch" and wandered inside. Robertson is generally calm during the day--parking was a breeze and the walk was pleasantly free of the cat-callers and junkies which usually dot my team's lunchtime walks around our Miracle Mile office. I was immediately seated and offered a takeout menu by attentive and friendly staff. My server then brought me a tall glass of ice water with lemon and offered it to me with a big smile. It might sound like a little thing, but this friendly service really made all the difference and I ended up tipping almost as much as my meal cost because it really brightened my day. Since I was just grabbing a quick takeout lunch, I opted for a simple cucumber roll and my favorite spicy tuna with crispy rice. I am a huge Izaka-ya fan, and the spicy tuna with crispy rice at Summer Fish definitely rivaled that of the Katsuya offshoot--Summer Fish adds avocado, which I think is a perfect touch. The rice patty definitely has more of a fried feel here as opposed to the toasted feeling I get at Izaka-ya, but it's definitely not greasy at all and the added crispiness makes each piece easier to eat in multiple bites. The cucumber roll was on point too and I like that Summer Fish serves their rolls with natural white ginger instead of that died business. In addition to the great food and service, Summer Fish also has it's ambiance going for it. The restaurant is bright, breezy, open, and clean. The windows are prominent and the tables are spaced far apart, offering the idea mixture of privacy and people-watching. I imagine the space between the tables also allows for easy conversation among parties (as opposed to the usual LA vibe of having to scream at the person across from you in order to communicate at all). Ultimately, I received my food quickly, it was a (very) reasonable price, it tasted great, the service was friendly and fantastic, and the location is clean/attractive/convenient.

Great little lunch place. Little pricey, but the service has always been exceptional and the fish has always been very fresh. It's the kind of place where they refill your beverage 5+ times before you leave. Also get the popcorn shrimp. Succulent little morsels of heaven.

Had spicy tuna over crispy rice and miso soup to go. Miso was good. Spicy tuna crispy rice was kinda gross. Oily fried rice and the oil tasted old, like it had been used tons of times. The spicy tuna was also tasteless. I don't think I will be coming back.

Pleasantly surprised to find this lovely gem. 1. Baked Mussels - HH menu. 3 mussels. It was so good that we placed a second order. 2. Spicy Tuna on Crispy Rice - HH menu. 4 pieces. Loved that the rice was warm. Other than that, your usual spicy tuna on crispy rice. 3. Uni Topped on Steak Sushi - HH menu. 2 pieces. Inhaled the first order. Steak cooked perfectly. It had a slice of jalapeño on it which gave it the perfect kick. Ordered another 2 pieces. 4. Fried Veggie Tempura - a good mix of veggies. Perfectly fried. 5. Summer Sushi Dinner Entree - came with edamame, miso soup and a starter salad. A good selection of sushi. Every piece was fresh and topped on sushi rice that seem to be stickier than most places, but it was tasty. 6. Green Tea Ice Cream - apparently this is part of the entree. My fave! 7. Service - excellent! Attentive, very nice, offered suggestions. 8. Price - can't beat it. Was shocked to see how surprisingly low it was when the bill arrived. HH prices are amazing!

Excellent sushi! Fabulous and attentive service! Easy parking! All in BH! This is happiness. Everything we had was super fresh and flavorful, they had some very interesting combinations that were positively delicious. I was impressed with their wine list, which was small, but well chosen. Whoever selected the unoaked chardonnay I'm grateful too. So lovely. BF had a japanese beer he had never tried before and loved it - sorry, names are escaping me as we may have imbibed a tad much that everning! ;0 We are already looking forward to going back.

I went once recently and--as I told the waitstaff this time around--"I couldn't get you guys out of my mind," at the risk of sounding creepy. This place is remarkably creative, tasteful, and worth the price. I'm likely to be more adventurous on the menu now that I know everything here rocks. One word: trufflesushi. I'll probably have my birthday dinner here.

This restaurant is just AMAZING! Just two blocks from where we live and I still don't know why we never came here before. The service is simply FANTASTIC! The waitress is the cutest and they are all super people oriented. We will repeat a million more times, we LOVED it! The food is the best I've eaten in a long time! Simply spectacular!

What a turnaround!! Now our favorite neighborhood place!! They now have lunch specials AND dinner specials on the menu--all of which are a great value and come with soup, salad and edamame. I love the spicy tuna bowl with black rice, the plenty of fish roll, and the kale salad. Sushi and sashimi are fresh and delicious, too. Little neighborhood gem.

My wife and I came here on a Friday night for an early dinner. We were both craving sushi and had driven by here on a daily basis for years. We decided to go ahead and give it a try. We got to the restaurant around 6:30 and were pleasantly surprised that it was Happy Hour. They had really good drink specials, including Allegash white for $4! We also tried some of the HH appetizers. We had the Baked Mussels and popcorn shrimp. Both were fine, neither amazing nor terrible. The nigiri and cut rolls were pretty good. The blue cab hand roll was alright, but not as good as many others that I have had. We were both satisfied when we left. The bill was a little high - $100 for a quick, early dinner, but I guess it is sushi in BH, so I shouldn't have been surprised. The service was very good- our server was very attentive. I would definitely come back, especially for happy hour.

After my haircut next door, I was starving and immediately when I walked by, I decided to eat here before the drive home in traffic. I popped in for their happy hour. My favorite fish is always salmon, and I get intense cravings for soft, fresh piece. I also ordered a spicy tuna appetizer. The spicy tuna was fine and tasty. I ordered Toro sushi and that was fine too. The service was nice, attentive (filled up my green tea, gave me orange slices as a quasi-dessert) but the salmon was really disappointing. Salmon sashimi that is not fresh is noticeable. It has this weird, souring taste especially if it was previously frozen, which this was. It was still partially frozen when I ate it which should never be the case for sashimi. My bill was over $40 for eating by myself. Very sad.

A group of 3 of us dined recently at Summer Fish and Rice. Overall the food was excellent, very fresh and creative. Prices are quite reasonable for such quality sushi. My two stars is based on their service. It was not professional. Very slow and unorganized. The waitress misunderstood one of our orders and when the wrong item arrived and all three of us corrected her, it was not replaced. In addition, 2 other items that we ordered never arrived. We had to have the bill revised twice. Overall I have hopes for this newcomer but they really need to work on their proficiency of their service.

Came here tonight for dinner with a girlfriend. I've driven past this place and have always wanted to try it. I was greeted when I walked in and the staff was really attentive. I decided to try their sushi and got an order of salmon, yellowtail, albacore, baked crab hand roll and albacore carpaccio. The waiter informed us that they were having a special on toro so we tried that too. He also made some other recommendations based on what we liked, which was nice. I admit that I am a bit of a sushi snob and my go to sushi place is either sushi gen or sugarfish. But I have to say that this place blew me away. Everything was so fresh and delicious. No complaints about anything and I found myself closing my eyes and going to my happy place that only great sushi can take me. I'll definitely be back to try their other stuff. Their prices are what you would find at a higher end sushi place but you pay for the quality. Definitely recommend!

Me and my family had a bad experience at this restaurant, their sea food is not fresh, they don't even wear gloves when they make sushi and don't wash their hands at all. service is very slow and prices are high but the sushi roll is very very small! Please stay away from this place.

What a great Japanese restaurant, the chefs are awesome and the selection is amazing. The fish is extremely fresh and when you get sashimi the give you the fatty belly cuz they know you'll appreciate it. They have an awesome happy hour menu with great prices on beer and sake. In addition to extremely fresh tasty fish they all have some creative rolls.

This place has great sushi! I went with my wife and her friend and we all thought the food, service, and price was excellent. Pat was our server and he's also the manager. He was very attentive to our needs at all times. Food came out in time and the sushi was so fresh. This is a hidden gem in the Beverly Hills neighborhood. I will definitely come back again. I get the feeling the restaurant and the manager cares about their customers and their satisfaction. Great job Pat! We love it here.

Happy Hour at Raw, the name lead me to believe that happy hour would include raw fish or sushi. Wrong, there were about twelve or sixteen items to choose from and only one raw fish dish. It was a spicy tuna on a taco shell, it was delicious with a side salad. I should have taken a picture of the dish or the menu. Popcorn shrimp Shrimp tempura Kale salads steak dish.... But I came for sushi and was disappointed. The sushi chef said it was the owners choice. Maybe the owner should notice Happy Hour is not bring in crowds and isn't working. When I arrived I was at the sushi bar with another women and a couple sitting at a table. I won't be going back.

When Raw first opened, their service was questionable and their sushi selection was not up to par (I asked for quail egg 4 times before they started carrying it). Now, I enjoy coming here because of the sushi chefs. They are very friendly and like to have a good time. The only reason I am giving this place a 3 star is because the waitresses are really inattentive. They don't watch to see if you need more sake or beer and flagging them down is a hassle. Not to mention that is takes them 10 minutes to come back with your drinks. They also forget that you ordered a seaweed salad or edamame. Annoying! Other than that, I like the food and sushi chefs. Train your waitresses to be on point and I'll bump up my rating to 4! Turn down your air conditioning and add some cool elevator music and I'll change my rating to 5 stars!

Food was really tasty and very flavorful. I forgot the name of the dish I had but it was basically a bed of wild black rice with spicy tuna on top along with some veggies and guacamole. The whole meal came with a bowl of miso soup, salad, and edamame. Very filling and very yummy! The only thing that bothered me was that when I asked for 2 sides of spicy mayo, one for me and one for my friend, the waitress didn't do so. She said just stick with one for now, which I thought was a little rude. But overall, I recommend this place for a try.

I did a pickup order by phone. I had a little trouble placing my order over the phone, but it was resolved pretty easily. I got a Spicy Tuna roll and steamed rice for only $10. That's pretty good compared to other places. There are some cheap rolls (the basics), but it can get pretty expensive for some of the more extravagant ones. The sushi was delicious, and the steamed rice was ON POINT. I will definitely be ordering from here again.

This place is seriously a hidden gem. I hope people start discovering it and it becomes more busy. It deserves a fair chance. I've had omakase at Matsuhisa, Q sushi, Sasabune regularly and many others. This is a serious contender. The 11 piece omakase is $45 and delicious!! It also comes with a delicious miso soup with mushrooms and tofu and a fabulous kale salad with nuts and sun dried tomatoes. That's a deal. The fish was delicious, melted in your mouth. The presentation was beautiful and creative. The sushi chefs are friendly and the wait staff was attentive. Not to mention they have happy hour every night too! I hope you all consider going the next time you want sushi. I think they are in the midst of renaming it Summer Sushi. Not sure I love the name, but I hope it helps draw more business.

This sushi joint has taken over the now missed Oishi. We came here to check out the restaurant that has taken over one of our fave places. Here's what we encountered: Tiny portions, tasteless sushi, and high prices. I understand they're faced with a rent increase but c'mon... if you're going to charge Koi prices give me something better than supermarket grade sushi.

I am a sushi lover. I need quality, price and atmosphere to enjoy the experience. This restaurant was a let down when it came to the quality and price of their items. While the remodel was beautiful, the price and quality of the sushi was sub-par. The rolls were over-priced and not worth the money-- don't get me wrong, I am all about spending money if it's worth it, but this restaurant didn't even come close. Most of the rolls taste similar, with the same combinations of fish, and are on the smaller side. For $17 a roll, this is not what I'd want. Furthermore, if you cannot afford some of the more elaborate rolls, the more traditional rolls are small and still pricey, with only six pieces. Overall, I am disappointed and will not be returning anytime soon.

I'm reluctant to give a negative review because the remodel is done well and the staff at this new restaurant are sweet. But RAW is their name and if you enjoy traditional sushi, steer clear. I must preface by admitting that I am a sushi snob. I prefer sashimi, live shellfish and most dishes without sauces or "crunchies". However, I decided to give this new joint a shot since they're walking distance from my house and they're open on Sunday. Unfortunately, my favorite place in the neighborhood is closed on Sunday. My first order was yellowtail sashimi. An easy dish for ANY sushi place. At least I thought it was. The sashimi here was frozen. The chef continued to rub it with his finger, then with jalapenos and then delayed longer while creating unnecessary, extravagant garnishes to buy time as he, too, knew that it was frozen and shouldn't be served. You see, they keep their fish in an under the counter freezer and not in a glass counter top cooler. You don't get to see any of the fish until it's plated. I only ate one piece of this 6 piece $17 dish. While making my sashimi the chef proceeded to tell me that their baked rolls, seared sushi and carpaccio (also seared) are the best and his "favorite". When I asked about uni, he said "it isn't good". When the sushi chef at the restaurant named, "RAW" suggests cooked food, I recommend following his suggestion. So, I followed his advise and order cooked food. The crispy rice spicy tuna was displayed well but then he drowned it in a sweet brown sauce. I was shocked. Without the sauce it would be acceptable. The baked crab hand roll (I asked for no sauce) was good and it was real crab. The seared albacore was ok but the entire sushi (and plate for that matter) was covered in fried onions and a sauce. I chose to skip tea or ice cream and have orange slices. That had absolutely no flavor. If you enjoy cooked, seared and over sauced sushi and rolls, this place is for you. If you enjoy traditional sushi, head south a block. If you're in the know, you'll know.

This is a great sushi place. The sashimi, chicken teriyaki, cucumber salad, green tea ice cream, and green tea is delicious. The service is friendly, polite, and clean. The food was amazingly fresh, yes, I said amazingly fresh...like they took the fish from the ocean and created it just for us. The lemony taste of our dishes enhanced the flavor and the teriyaki was not too sweet, not too thick, not too watery...just perfect enough to accentuate the perfectly cooked salmon, not hide it. You must try this place! The prices are reasonable for sushi anywhere. Best Belated Birthday dinner, thank you Danny!!

Great lunch specials like the EEL BOWL! And amazing price point considering the zip code. The lunch combo gives you soup, a little salad and a lunch bowl of your choice for only about $13. Everyone in my party wants to come back for dinner. We were impressed by the menu and the staff. Lovely, and clean, it's a great spot.

3.5 stars. This review is for their dineLA menu - 4 courses (2 apps, one entree, one dessert) for $30. As far as the deal goes, this is a pretty good value. APPETIZERS Soft Shell Crab - lightly battered/deep fried, crispy but not greasy Octopus Sunumono Salad - octopus laced flavor and was a bit rubbery Trio of Albacore Carpacio, Yellowtail & Grapefruit, Tuna Tataki - fresh and flavorful ENTREE 8 Piece Sushi Plate - pretty fresh tasting overall, especially the salmon 6 Pieces of Sashimi - beautifully plated, tasty DESSERT Green Tea Ice Cream - creamy but not much green tea flavor Green Tea Cheesecake - a bit overbaked and dry, lacked green tea flavor overall Service was efficient and friendly enough. It is a decent deal for dineLA , but nothing really stood out. There are better places for sushi and sashimi, but it's hard to beat the price. parking - metered, free street parking on Sundays

One of those restaurants that I wish I could give 3.5 stars to. Ugh. Service was on point. Really fast, super attentive, always made sure we got what we needed. Quickly. I mean, there were 5 people in the restaurant, but that's besides the point...right? We ordered the crispy rice spicy tuna, albacore capriccio, and the killer roll. The spicy tuna just wasn't that good; it didn't taste fresh. It kinda tasted like one of those Sushi Mac type places. Not feeling it. The albacore capriccio, though, was on point. Make sure you ask the staff which fish they would recommend. Note: The menu online isn't the menu in the restaurant. It's not drastically different, but there are a few things missing.

I want to try other places because... I am trying to break the mold of my "creature of habit" ways, however, when restaurants are less than par to me, all I want to do is take comfort in my staple joints! I went to this sushi restaurant with the self proclaimed Food Pervert after we decided we were going to try something new. We are happy to report that street parking is FREE after 6pm... And super easy! This restaurant is super cute with a very clean, modern feel. I definitely thought I was going to treat my tastebuds quite well! Sure the food was good and fresh but it really wasn't anything SPECIAL.... Yet was priced as though it was! I spent DOUBLE at this sushi joint as opposed to one of my usual spots... Here is what we ordered: - Edamame - the typical - Fried Chicken - the Food Pervert ate this and didn't make any noises and didn't say anything about it. I think she was just hungry so anything sounded good. - Ahi Poke Salad - good salad with loads of seaweed salad that didn't taste EXTREMELY SALTY OR SWEET! Score! - Spicy Tuna with Crispy Rice - THE HIT OF THE EVENING LADIES AND GENTLEMAN!!!!! the Food Pervert died when she ate this! "the BEST SPICY TUNA & crispy rice in all of LA" she said x1000 over and she should know, she has seriously been to every restaurant in LA! - 5 Salmon Skin Handrolls (no rice) - my usual order at every sushi joint. Nice & crispy so yum but I do like a little more MEAT on my skin too, but that's not the restaurants fault necessarily. I thank them for heeding to my special order. - Unagi Sashimi - typical delicious unagi, can't really mess that up. - Cucumber Wrapped Sushi Roll - good but kind of watery... The cucumber overpowers the fish a bit. My other sushi restaurants nail this dish, this one was OK only. The service was okay too. Our waitress was very sweet and accommodated to our needs.... But really, I wasn't feeling this place 100%. I wish I ordered the hamachi kama, but c'est la vie... Oh that's French, not Japanese. Will I come back? Probably not- but I am glad I went, as I said before... I need to GET OUT OF MY COMFORT ZONE every so often... However I think today, I might go back to my favorite sushi joint lol!

Great DineLA find! 4 course meal for $40, with plenty of options to choose from for each course. We had: Appetizer: Crazy tuna salad: two heaps of spicy tuna served atop a crispy won ton skin with salad: 5 Tako sunomono: generous helping of cucumber, less so with the octopus. Quality of octopus was pretty good though: 4 Second course: Grapefruit yellowtail: several thin slices of yellowtail seasoned with grapefruit, red peppers, and I think yuzu: 4 Poke salad: poke atop of marinated seaweed: 3 Third course (we both got the 8 nigiri set): Ebi: s'okay 3 Tako: s'okay 3 Tuna: had better 3 Salmon: delicious 5 Red snapper: well augmented with seasoning 4 Halibut: overpowered by seasoning 4 Albacore: divine 5 Yellowtail: ditto 5 Dessert (both got the green tea cheesecake): 4 Food average: 4 Service: 5 Ambiance: 4 Value (for DineLa): 5 = 4.5 stars

You know how most affordable sushi places have ridiculous rolls that are mostly fillers? Well Summer is NOT that place. Their rolls are still creative but delicate, fish light and fresh, plus a small outside patio. And you can order for pick up from the yelp app! Adding to the weeknight dinner pick up rotation for sure!

Was on my way home one night noticed the major renovations & name change from what they used to be years back and decided to stop by Went with the 8 PC Omakase, comes with the awesome kale salad and orange slices at the end. All the fish was fresh tasting especially the yellowtail belly by fat my favorite next the red snapper. What I didn't care for was the blue crab roll had too much mayo not sure there was any crab pushed it aside after 2 bites. 2nd Order - delivery Got the same 8 PC Omakase as it's the best bang for your buck. Pretty much same items in the restaurant minus the awesome kale salad. Did request a toro scallion roll instead of the blue crab, the restaurant called to say they could not we decided on the yellowtail scallion - that did not arrive they sent a spicy roll of something that neither of us were interested in, there was oil all over the wrap they had it in and it wasn't what we wanted.

My absolute favorite new sushi spot in LA! We came here for dinner and have been dreaming about it ever since. We ordered the spicy tuna crispy rice for an appetizer. Delicious. Ordered the tuna mango roll in soy paper. Amazing. And did the lesser of the two omakases offered. Hands down the best (and most affordable) omakase I've ever had! We sat at the bar and the talented chefs prepared two incredible plates consisting of various melt-in-your-mouth nigiri, a blue crab handroll, salmon roe sushi, and a couple other lovely creations. The restaurant was nice and quiet, the staff was lovely...we can't wait to go back!

Five stars for the prices, the food, the service. I walked in and ordered green tea, spicy tuna rice bowl, karaage, and miso black cod sushi. This place is leaning towards he traditional Japanese cuisine culture, with a respectful atmosphere and quiet ambience. The spicy tuna fish uses black rice, which is a pleasant surprise. The salad that comes with this bowl is normal, but it's what you get at the price. The miso soup is also standard. The spicy tuna bowl is creative, hits the spot. The black cod sushi uses a sweet soy paper to hold it together, a creative usage I have not encountered before.

There are tons of sushi restaurants in this neighborhood but this one is the best. Their sashimi is so fresh and delicious. I don't usually like salmon because most places it tastes really fishy, but at Summer Fish & Rice their salmon is so fresh it was one of the tastiest things I've ever had! To top it off their staff is wonderful. Everyone is really friendly and smiling as you enter and the service is amazing. I will be getting all of my sushi at Summer Fish & Rice from now on! :)

I tried this place the other night with a friend and it was amazing. Really fresh sushi and great staff. Very welcoming setting and fast seating. They also have unique sushi rolls. Highly recommend this place. Nona thank you for being so kind! I forgot to mention another server who is so sweet, Fa. She is so welcoming and kind. The staff at this restaurant are exceptionally kind!

I came here with 3 friends for dinner at 8pm. I'll comment on the food first. To begin with, we ordered 4 dishes of different rolls to share: the "She's From Miami" Roll, the Crunchy Roll, the Soft-Shell Crab Roll, and the Baked Salmon Roll. The Crunchy Roll and Baked Salmon Roll were quite mediocre and in general, they're pretty much just what you expect; however, the Crunchy Roll lacked sauce and there was a little too much rice compared to the tempura. The Soft-Shell Crab Roll came with too large a ratio of vegetables compared to crab; in fact rarely do the places I normally eat at serve vegetables in their Soft-Shell Crab Rolls, and as such there wasn't at all enough crab in the actual roll (you can refer to my close-up picture below). The "She's From Miami" Roll was probably one of the tastiest dishes that we ordered; I normally am not a fan of tuna, especially spicy tuna, but the taste mixed quite well with the sauce and avocados. Because none of us were at all full, we ordered another 3 plates of rolls: the S A S Roll, the Hinode Roll, and the Philly Roll. Again, in general, they tasted good but nothing more. I'd recommend the Hinode Roll as it's something unique and the sauce tasted good. By now, our stomachs were somewhat satisfied but we couldn't bring ourselves to order more for the reasons I will explain below. I have to say that the service at this restaurant is pretty bad. Our server wasn't rude or anything but everything just took so much time to bring out. We literally waited for 45 minutes for our Soft-Shell Crab Roll. And because people started coming in around 8:40, our second batch of roll orders took about 30 to 40 minutes to come out, and by then we already weren't as hungry. We also noticed that even though so many more people had entered the restaurant, there was still only one waiter rushing around each table. Only after a while did 2 more servers pop out to serve the hungry customers. I must also point out that our server didn't speak very fluent English so it was hard to understand him when we asked him questions. He also told us the rolls came in different portions of either 6 or 8, but in reality, most of them only actually came in portions of 5. A small additional detail is that our table was sticky when we arrived which also somewhat annoyed us. It also took them a good 20 minutes to give us our checks after we had gave them our credit cards. In general, the food is good, but nothing more; not bad, not great, just good. Service was poor, to say the least. Not expensive, yet not cheap. I feel this place is a good example of an exact 3.0/5 star restaurant.

I came here a few weeks ago with my boyfriend after nearly a year passed since our last sushi date. We made reservations day-of without issue, and ordered the omakase for $45, an 11-piece combo that left both of us feeling very satisfied. Everything tasted fantastic, and I was extremely happy with the meal and ambiance. Service was excellent, although it was a slow night for them, very few other customers, mostly sitting at the bar over drinks, looking happy.

LOVE this place. Recently ordered take out from them and was pleasantly surprised. Plenty of traditional and modern items to choose from, I had the red flower and killer roll, both were delicious. Super flavorful, fresh, creative use of ponzu. I've already ordered two more times since discovering this place two weeks ago. My only (small) complaint is that it takes a little longer than usual to get food but its worth it.

Summer Fish & Rice will henceforth be my go-to lunch sushi spot. Per usual, I feel hesitant to share how much I loved this place with everyone as to make it crowded and therefore less chill but I'm taking my chances to ensure they stay in business. I have been searching for a new sushi spot for a while now since my old favorite lunch spot changed ownership. I have found some great dive alternatives but nowhere I could do a business lunch... until now. Summer Fish & Rice has quality fish at reasonable prices. I found the service to be very good as well as the chef, Woody. Decor was typically sparse but not cold which I appreciated. The restaurant had patrons but wasn't jam packed so the noise level was low which I also appreciated. I can't believe this place has been around for 2 years and I've just now discovered it.

(4)Mark H.
(2)Amanda D.
Excellent service and fresh food with fantastic flavor combinations. The Del Sol roll was by far the best sushi roll I have ever had. The yellowtail and grapefruit salad was so light and fresh it practically melted in my mouth. Great find and highly recommend!
(5)Stacey C.
(3)Cele S.
(5)Emma N.
Try it out!
(4)Brian L.
Place is great. Friendly, calm, good food yo.

Again on a quest to find our regular sushi joint close to our place. We had the omikase here and although not as good as Mori, it was quite good. The fish was fresh, and the staff is very friendly. The Omikase is not all sashimi, but definitely a very good experience.
(3)Tim W.
(5)Dave R.
Yummy! Not just another sushi joint! excellent tasty new things to try, nice people serving you and could become your new sushi regular spot. I have been twice now and both times i went it was really 5 stars. Go try it.
(5)Bart M.
(5)Jacob R.
(2)Ana Luiza G.
This place is very cute and has great staff. Their downfall will ultimately come from their prices. Way too expensive and the food is average.
(3)Nikolai L.
(5)Min Jae S.
(4)Kasey E.
(2)David Y.
One word overpriced!!! Don't waste your money on such average sushi and basic rolls being so expensive !! Much better sushi choices then these people who rip you off ! Rotten damn scums !!!!
(1)Laura K.
(4)Jenny J.
(3)Matt F.
(4)Danielle M.
(4)Jessica B.
(5)Sam S.
(4)Silverake G.
(5)Christina D.
Really good sushi- very different and exotic. Just a tad over priced!
(3)Liza G.
Went there few nights ago with a friend. Overall i thought it was good. Delicious food but service wasn't exactly the best. Took about 15-20 mins to bring out food after every order. Everyone was really friendly and most of all, they have black rice- my favorite.
(4)Christina T.
Delicious sushi and a very inviting atmosphere. The staff was extremely friendly and I enjoyed the simple lighting and decor. I definitely recommend the cucumber roll. A little overpriced for basic rolls is my only complaint! I would return.
(4)Ethan E.
My mouth is so happy right now. Alright. I'll cut to the chase: Red Snapper Scallop Sushi Baked Crab Handroll Place is on point. Service is great. Food is way above its price point.
(5)Natalay G.
(4)Nick H.
S.A.S. Roll is excellent. Chicken kara age in warm bites also delicious. Hell it's all great. And Kirin Ichiban (and more) on draft!
(5)Desiree Z.
(5)Emily R.
(5)Lee C.
(2)Alfie R.
Order the popcorn shrimp! the staff is very nice and attentive. I will definitely be coming back again
(5)Coles B.

(5)Brian B.
Great little lunch place. Little pricey, but the service has always been exceptional and the fish has always been very fresh. It's the kind of place where they refill your beverage 5+ times before you leave. Also get the popcorn shrimp. Succulent little morsels of heaven.
(4)Natalie W.
Had spicy tuna over crispy rice and miso soup to go. Miso was good. Spicy tuna crispy rice was kinda gross. Oily fried rice and the oil tasted old, like it had been used tons of times. The spicy tuna was also tasteless. I don't think I will be coming back.
(2)Leah M.
Not the best sushi but certainly not the worst. Have some good dinner meals and will substitute for a fee.
(3)Cynthia C.

Excellent restaurant in every way: food, service, ambience, decor. Happened to drive by and the space looked cool. Lucky choice. Superb menu. The 4 course $30 is a bargain. Really impressed.

This is a Great Place to Pick up and go Sushi, Sashimi, and Japanese food. . . It has been Consistently Fresh and well packaged into Togo containers. Origami is my Favorite Choice that I Enjoy Ordering. . . Highly Recommended this Place for some Great Quality Sushi well Presented!

2nd time here was a mistake I sat at the bar so I could see all the unsanitary and cross contaminating. Fish was just ok some better than other the sushi chef had a band aid on his finger that he kept sticking in some jar was very unpleasant
(1)Michael D. L.
We love coming here for dinner as a family. We tend to come early to a nearly empty restaraunt. The service is very friendly and attentive, but the food is the real attraction. We keep trying new items on the menu and have never been disappointed.

Outstanding quality. Their wasabi looks as if it's made in house. Great lunch specials. Staff was very professional. I will be returning when in the area!
(5)Jessica C.
(5)Natalie A.
Me and my family had a bad experience at this restaurant, their sea food is not fresh, they don't even wear gloves when they make sushi and don't wash their hands at all. service is very slow and prices are high but the sushi roll is very very small! Please stay away from this place.
(1)Lucas K.
(5)Vince R.

(2)Rhoadell S.
The food was fantastic. The suggestions from the waitress was perfect. Will be back.

(3)Melody S.
(4)Deryck R.

(3)Michelle L.
(2)Jameson B.

(5)Cecilia D.

(3)Nathan B.

First time here I came here on a Sunday night and the food was great Really fresh and delicious! My favorite was the toro with the truffle on top. Amazing! Everything else was also really good Worth coming and checking out

(5)James L.
(5)Allison L.

(3)Hannah R.
(5)Krista B.
(4)Brittany B.
(4)Desi T.
I love this place! Great ambiance and very friendly staff. Food is also delicious. Definitely going back! Oh and ask for Fa as your waitress or Nona! They're both amazing!
(5)Daniela G.
Great dinner specials (though you might still be hungry). Usually empty, but make a reservation through OpenTable for those dining points!
